EFREN PENAFLORIDA WINS CNN HERO OF THE YEAR 2009

A Filipino in the person of Efren Penaflorida was named CCN Hero of the Year 2009.

Penaflorida started a "pushcart classroom" to give education to poor Filipino children who can't afford to go to school thereby helping them avoid becoming gang members.

The following are the 2009 Top 10 CNN Heroes: Brad Blauser, Roy Foster, Doc Hendley, Andrea Ivory, Betty Makoni, Jorge Munoz, Efren Penaflorida, Budi Soehardi, Derrick Tabb, and Jordan Thomas.

The award was presented to Penaflorida in a gala event in Hollywood and attended by celebrities.
